Sequoia Teen Counseling Center empowers teens, young adults, and caregivers through evidence-based, collaborative care.
We aim to affirm each client’s unique experiences, identities and neurotypes through flexible and creative approaches in treatment. Healing happens both in and out of the therapy room, therefore we facilitate comprehensive supports to strengthen each young person’s capacity to build a fulfilling, authentic life.
We specialize in working with young adults and teens facing the following challenges:
ANXIETY + OCD
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem for teens and young adults today. Utilizing evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure + Response Prevention, clinicians can help youth conquer their fears, cope with their worries, and live a more free life.
TRAUMA
When teens and young adults experience trauma, there can be lasting effects on mood, sleep, relationships, and self image. Whether it be physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, the loss of a friend or family member, a car accident, bullying, or another stressful event, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy can help teens and young adults heal and become stronger than ever.
DEPRESSION
Now more than ever, depression is a struggle facing many teens and young adults. With techniques such as behavioral activation and cognitive restructuring, therapy can help boost mood and energy levels while also increasing positive thinking and self-esteem.
We focus our work on the following populations of young adults & teens:
TWICE-EXCEPTIONAL
For teens with both extraordinary abilities and a diagnosed disability, it can be difficult to find acceptance and joy in a one-size-fits-all school system and society. Our Mentally Healthy Student Program has a package specifically tailored to fit the needs and celebrate the gifts of 2e teens.
LGBTQ+
Young adults and teens who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community may be presented with a range of challenges, including coming out, dealing with internalized homophoia or transphobia, and facing discrimination or erasure from others. Affirming care from a professional therapist offers queer youth the tools they need to feel confident and happy in themselves.
AUTISM SPECTRUM
Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum face unique challenges as they navigate a neurotypical world. Through social skills practice, relaxation techniques, and behavioral interventions, our licensed counselors empower neurodiverse teens to learn new things and embrace their strengths.
